Farming Loot in 2026: Normal Battles vs Ranked

How players farm now
A poll on r/ClashOfClans asked farmers the minimum Gold and Elixir they look for before attacking. Of about 440 votes, the largest group picked 900,000 to 1.3 million. The top comment ignored the question entirely: they never look, they just attack, spam Valkyries, quit at 50% and repeat. Several others agreed that hunting for loot is slower than collecting the bonus.
That pattern repeats across farming threads. Asked about the fastest way to farm for walls, players suggested mass Valkyries, Electro Dragons with Rage Spells, Super Barbarians, Super Minions or mass Miners, all aimed at reaching a set damage quickly and ending the battle. When someone asked whether Sneaky Goblins were still the best farming army, a reply explained that at higher leagues a fast 50% wins the bonus in about ten seconds, which beats spending a minute picking storages.
The reason is the league bonus.
How the league bonus works
According to the Clash of Clans Wiki, winning any multiplayer battle, normal or Ranked, pays a league bonus on top of the loot you take. Its maximum depends on your Town Hall level and your Ranked league, which is one reason players care about their league even when they are only farming.
How much of that maximum you receive depends on damage, not stars:
- Up to 50% damage, each percent is worth 1.6% of the bonus, so a 50% win earns 80% of it.
- From 50% to 70%, each percent adds 1%, so 70% damage earns the full bonus.
- Above 70%, there is no more bonus to gain.
- A loss, with zero stars, earns no bonus at all. A 60% one-star and a 60% two-star earn the same bonus.
Quit at 50% or at 70%?
This is why players disagree about when to end a farming attack. Quitting at 50% secures the star and 80% of the bonus in the shortest time. Pushing to 70% gets the last 20% but takes longer. One Ranked farmer said they quit around 60% for a 91% bonus, and another replied that ending at 70% gives the full amount, which matches the wiki's formula.
The wiki also explains the controls. Once you have a star, the Surrender button turns back into End Battle, so you can end a won attack early without losing anything. Before the first star, surrendering counts as a loss and earns no bonus. With a quick army, the best choice depends on whether the extra seconds to 70% are worth more to you than starting the next search sooner.
Normal battles or Ranked?
Ranked Battles are a surprisingly good farm. The wiki explains that loot in Ranked is generated by the game rather than taken from the defender, and the maximum depends on your Town Hall and league. There is no searching either, because Ranked has no Next button. A thread asking whether anyone just farms in Ranked was full of players who do: several said every Ranked base carries one to two million in loot, so a one-star with Valkyries or an Earthquake-and-troop spam is enough.
Ranked has limits that normal battles do not. You only get a fixed number of attacks per week, set by your league, and event troops are not allowed. Every attack is logged once you enter, so you cannot skip a bad base. That makes Ranked a good addition to farming, not a replacement.
Normal battles cost a little Gold to search, 1,700 per base at TH18 according to the wiki, and you can skip as often as you like. They also allow limited-time event troops, which players repeatedly named as the fastest farming tool when they appear. One player said they maxed every TH16 wall in a single day during one of those events, and others recommended clearing your schedule when one starts. A late-day warning from another player: by then many bases have already been raided, so expect more skipping.
Is protecting your own loot still worth it?
A new player asked whether to wall in their Gold and Elixir storages. Most replies said loot is so easy to replace that defending it barely matters, and to focus on offense instead. One reply suggested placing a storage of each type on either side of the Town Hall so a raider cannot take all of one resource from one side, which is reasonable but minor.
The rules back that up. In Ranked Battles you lose no loot on defense at all. In normal battles, an attack that steals at least 30% of your available loot gives you a Magic Shield, according to the wiki. If you farm actively and spend as you go, there is rarely much in your storages to protect. A dedicated farming layout matters mostly when you are saving for a single large upgrade.
A farming routine that works
Combining the rules with what players report gives a simple routine.
- Before farming, check your free builders and the next upgrade you can afford.
- Use your weekly Ranked attacks when your Heroes are available, ideally with a Clan Castle cake, and treat the loot as a bonus.
- Farm in normal battles with a fast army, ending at 50% or 70% depending on how quickly you can reach it.
- When storages are full, start the next upgrade and put the surplus into walls.
- Save long farming sessions for resource events and mass troop events.
