Builder Base: Should You Rush It for the 6th Builder?

Why almost everyone rushes it
When a player asked whether to rush their Builder Base because farming Builder Gold felt exhausting, the replies were close to unanimous. Rush it, get the sixth builder, max the Gem Mine and the Clock Tower, and after that upgrade whatever you like. One reply listed the order in four lines: sixth builder, Gem Mine, Clock Tower, then Baby Dragons. Another said a rushed Builder Base looks odd, but the rewards far outweigh how it looks.
The reason is that the Builder Base matters most for what it gives the Home Village. Threads like "Why don't people play builder base?" collect complaints about slow loot, long timers and repetitive attacks. Even a post arguing that you should upgrade the Builder Base anyway was really about potential future links to the main village, not about the mode itself. Some players do enjoy it and keep playing after maxing, but they are a minority in these threads. At the far end, one player maxed the whole Builder Base without attacking, using only Raid Medals and Gold Pass rewards over several years, and said Builder Gold and Elixir runes were the best value once storages were maxed.
What unlocks the sixth builder
The sixth Home Village builder is B.O.B, and you unlock him through B.O.B Control in the Builder Base. According to the Clash of Clans Wiki, B.O.B Control becomes available at Builder Hall 9 and does nothing until it reaches level 5, which lets you build B.O.B's Hut in the Home Village. Its upgrades cost no time or resources, but each one needs a free Master Builder or O.T.T.O and a requirement completed. There are four requirements, done in this order:
- Gear up the Cannon, Archer Tower and Mortar in the Home Village. This needs a level 7 Cannon, level 10 Archer Tower and level 8 Mortar in the Home Village, and a level 4 Double Cannon, level 6 Archer Tower and level 8 Multi Mortar in the Builder Base.
- Upgrade any Builder Base troop to level 18, which needs Star Laboratory level 9.
- Upgrade any Builder Base defense to level 9. O.T.T.O's Outpost, traps and walls do not count.
- Bring the Battle Machine and Battle Copter to a combined level of 45.
An order that avoids wasted weeks
The wiki's unlock notes add several details that change how you should plan, and they match what players recommend.
- Town Hall 10 is the earliest point. The Mortar gear-up needs a level 8 Mortar, which first becomes available at TH10.
- Start the gear-ups early. The requirement only checks that each gear-up has started, not that it has finished. The Mortar gear-up is the longest of the three at 14 days, so you can start it and move on while it runs.
- Do not leave everything for the end. B.O.B Control needs a free Builder Base builder to upgrade, so a waiting requirement can cost you a week if both builders are busy.
- Pick one troop for level 18. The wiki suggests the Baby Dragon because it unlocks at Builder Barracks level 6, earlier than the Night Witch at level 8. Players in rush threads said the same and use Baby Dragons for star farming.
- Use the Multi Mortar for the level 9 defense. You already need a level 8 Multi Mortar for the Mortar gear-up, so one more level satisfies both.
- Treat the Heroes as the bottleneck. The combined 45 levels take the longest; the wiki suggests aiming for Battle Machine 23 and Battle Copter 22 so both finish together.
Builder Elixir and the Clock Tower
Hero levels eat Builder Elixir, which is the resource players complain about most. The wiki describes a farming trick: deploy one troop, then surrender immediately. According to the wiki, that still triggers a defense on your own base, which pays Builder Elixir, and lets you start the next match at once. Force quitting instead makes you wait for the battle timer. Several players described their own version: once they reached high trophies they dropped trophies on purpose with quick surrenders, then played full attacks again lower down, where Builder Gold is easier to get.
The Clock Tower speeds up everything in the Builder Base while it is active, and the wiki recommends rebuilding it immediately and raising it to level 6 after Builder Hall 6, when O.T.T.O arrives as the second builder. Beyond level 6, the wiki argues, the time lost while it upgrades takes longer to win back than the whole B.O.B unlock usually takes. Clock Tower Potions bought with Raid Medals or event medals help too. The Gem Mine, by contrast, adds so little that the wiki suggests rebuilding it to start producing gems but not upgrading it until B.O.B is done.
After B.O.B
Once B.O.B Control reaches level 5 and you build B.O.B's Hut, players say most of the Builder Base's value is done. The common next steps are maxing the Gem Mine for passive gems and the Clock Tower for faster Builder Base work, then upgrading the rest at whatever pace you like. One player pointed out that collecting the Gem Mine regularly adds up to a meaningful number of free gems over a month. Some players also said they only go back for quick Clan Games tasks.
If you enjoy the mode, there is no reason not to play it properly. Players who enjoyed it said lower Builder Hall levels felt more strategic than later ones, where a few dominant troops took over. Just do not let the Builder Base slow your Home Village. Its best reward is a builder that works there.
